A charming Shibayama Mother-of-Pearl plaque pendant, its pearly ground shimmering with tones of blue, green and warm bronze as tiny inlaid shell “bugs” scuttle across the surface. Each insect is formed from iridescent shell chips with fine incised line work for legs and antennae, all framed by a sleek Sterling Silver bezel and a fixed, soldered bail.

Whimsical yet refined, this studio-made piece captures a natural history aesthetic in miniature. Insect inlays measure 7mm long x 3mm wide.

MATERIALS: Tests as Sterling Silver, Mother-of-Pearl, Carved Shell.

STAMPS: 925 to reverse, Scratched signature to front.

HALLMARKS: Maker's Mark BTJ, Leopard Head, 925, date letter f on bail.

EXCELLENT: The Mother-of-Pearl shows light surface scratches and subtle age-related crazing, and the Silver has a gentle, even patina with minor scuffs. The inlaid shell motifs are intact with crisp detailing, and the bezel and fixed bail are secure. No visible repairs or alterations.
