This rare Georgian 18ct Gold Rock Crystal Halley's Comet brooch will add intrigue to your collection! The comet is formed of two crisp white Rock Crystals, each one beautifully faceted and foiled to scintillate in the light. They are displayed within Silver piecrust settings and joined by intricately engraved 18ct Gold accents.

Halley's Comet, a scientific phenomenon that enchanted both the Georgians and Victorians alike, occurs every 75 years and has been recorded by astronomers around the world since 240 BC! It wasn't until 1705 that the British astronomer Edmond Halley understood that these appearances were reappearances of the same comet returning into view every 75 years.

Circa 1840, this antique brooch is full of Georgian charm and is proof that when science and art collide, treasures like this are produced!

MEASUREMENTS: Brooch is 35mm long x 14mm wide.
Large Rock Crystal is 13mm in diameter.
Small Rock Crystal is 3mm in diameter.

MATERIALS: Tests as 18ct Gold, Silver settings, Rock Crystal.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT: This Georgian 18ct Gold Rock Crystal Halley's Comet brooch is in wonderful condition, which is no mean feat when considering its impressive age. The Rock Crystals are bright with no signs of wear, and held securely within their collet settings. The Silver has accrued a light patina, enhancing the brilliance of the gems. There are some mild signs of surface wear throughout, but none that detract from the overall impact of the piece.
