A charming Victorian equestrian Essex Crystal pendant, finely carved in reverse intaglio to depict a jockey mid-gallop. The miniature comes alive beneath the domed crystal, its depth enhanced by a luminous Mother of Pearl backing that adds a soft iridescence and a sense of motion to the scene.

ERA: Victorian (1837–1901).

MEASUREMENTS: Pendant is 26mm long including jump ring.
Pendant itself is 20.5mm in diameter.
WEIGHT: 4.8g.

MATERIALS: Tests as 18ct Gold, Mother of Pearl, Essex Crystal.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

PACKAGING: Your order will be gift-wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.

Condition

EXCELLENT: The reverse intaglio Essex Crystal is crisp with only light surface marks under magnification; the Mother of Pearl backing is intact with minimal, age-related speckling. The 18ct Gold rope bezel and soldered bail are secure and well preserved, with a neat area of solder visible at the bail. Overall, the pendant has been well cared for with gentle wear commensurate with age.
