A wonderfully whimsical yet refined Arts & Crafts miniature purse, crafted in Silver with a radiating engraved spider’s web and a charming applied spider. Its abdomen glows with a Blue Sapphire cabochon, while a tiny Red Paste cabochon forms the head — a playful, gothic-tinged motif realised with elegant restraint.

Engineered for use, the case has a long spine hinge and twin push-button latch, opening to tan leather concertina compartments. A short oval-link chain handle and crisp, minimalist lines complete the look.

MEASUREMENTS: Purse is 50mm long x 90.5mm wide.
Sapphire cabochon measures 3mm long x 2.5mm wide.
Red Paste cabochon is 1.5mm in diameter.
Chain is 3.5mm wide.
WEIGHT: 82.3g.

MATERIALS: Tests as Silver, Sapphire, Red Paste.

STAMPS: BLB PATENTED.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

PACKAGING: Your order will be gift-wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.

Condition

EXCELLENT: The Blue Sapphire and Red Paste cabochons are secure and free from obvious chips, with bright colour. Silver surfaces show light age-appropriate wear and a graceful patina; the long hinge and twin push-button latch operate well. The interior leather bellows are intact with mild creasing and edge rubbing from age, with a tiny spot of verdigris at one interior rivet and no visible repairs.
