A charming Art Deco Japanese fan brooch rendered in Shakudo, the inky black patina enriched with delicate gold-toned linework of a stylised Mount Fuji landscape—pagoda, sailing boats, birds and rippling waves—framed by a slender gilt border and finished with a tiny drop finial. The pictorial scene is beautifully crisp, a miniature vignette that brings poetic serenity and refined artistry to a lapel or scarf.

Crafted as a flat plaque with radiating fan pleats, the brooch is fitted with a tube hinge, long pin and simple hooked catch to the reverse. Elegant, graphic and evocative of Japanese souvenir art, it’s a wearable slice of Art Deco charm.

MEASUREMENTS: Brooch is 26mm long x 36mm wide.
WEIGHT: 5.6g.

MATERIALS: Shakudo.

STAMPS: “K24” to front.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

PACKAGING: Your order will be gift-wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.

Condition

EXCELLENT: The patinated surface and fine gilt line decoration remain crisp with no obvious enamel losses; no gemstones are present. The closed back, tube hinge, pin and hook catch are intact, with the pin showing a slight age-related bend. Very light rubbing to the gilt edges and a small area of solder/residue at the lower drop junction are noted for accuracy.
