These outstanding antique French 18ct Gold black Enamel Diamond day & night earrings perfectly capture the exquisite craftsmanship of the Victorian era! The ornately formed 18ct Gold is bursting with intricate details, inlaid with striking black Enamel and studded with Pearls and a single rose-cut Diamond in the centre of each drop.

Day and night jewellery was incredibly popular during the 16th and 17th centuries, revered for their versatility, and these Fench beauties are a fine example. Each piece of jewellery was created with multiple components giving the wearer a choice in how to style them. With this pair, the top section can be worn alone for a more minimal "day" look, with the bottom sections affixed at "night" for special occasions.

These Victorian day & night earrings are exceptionally crafted and have stood the test of time; they are bound to bring you years of wearing pleasure and guaranteed to be admired for generations to come!

ERA: Victorian, c.1870.

MEASUREMENTS: Earrings are 50.5mm long inc hooks.
Earrings are 18.5mm wide.
Diamonds are approx. 3.4mm long x 3.7mm wide, weighing approx. 0.35ct combined.*
Pearls are 1.5mm in diameter.
Weight: 7.4g combined.

*Please note the unique and irregular shape of Rose-cut Diamonds prohibits their accurate carat weight assessment. Carat weights provided are estimates only and based on the carat spread of equivalent-sized modern round brilliant-cut Diamonds.

MATERIALS: Tests as 18ct Gold, Black Enamel, Rose Cut Diamond (0.35ct), Pearls.

STAMPS: French Eagles Head for 18ct Gold on base of levers.
HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

PACKAGING: Your order will be gift wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.

Condition

VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT. These antique French 18ct Gold black Enamel Diamond day & night earrings are in superb condition. The Gold is brightly saturated and the black Enamel is pristine and defined. Each rose-cut Diamond has crisp facets and is securely set, with no fleabites visible, and the Pearls are all present with a lovely silvery sheen. There is some general wear, to be expected from a piece of jewellery created over a century ago, and one of the ball details on one earwire has some damage, but this is barely noticeable amongst the fine details of the earrings. All the components are securely affixed with robust lever-backs that allow for confident wear!
